Operation Welcome Home events will take place throughout Dayton Ohio and the surrounding Miami Valley area.  New events are being added daily and registration will open very soon!  Please check back daily for new additions.  Many events are FREE but registration is required for all events.

Veterans Tribute: 6 - 10:00 pm (FREE)                       National Museum of the United States Air Force

This patriotic celebration will pay special tribute to our Vietnam - era Veterans as we remember the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.  Open to all veterans from all services! Registration required

The evening will feature: 
 

  • Special veteran’s recognition with keynote speakers
  • Patriotic performance by the USAF Band of Flight Systems GO
  • Special tour of the SEA Gallery
  • Sumptuous spread of appetizers and desserts
  • Check out the newly revamped Vietnam War-Era Exhibit
Movie “Air Force” (1943): 3 PM (FREE)
National Museum of the United States Air Force, Carney auditorium
The crew of an Air Force bomber arrives in Pearl harbor in the aftermath of the Japanese attack and is sent on to Manila to help with the defense of the Philippines. Stars: John Garfield, John Ridgely and Gig Young.

  • Veterans will be warmly welcomed in the beautiful Veteran’s Hall in the historic downtown Dayton Memorial Hall. This service, planned by Dayton District Three VFW, will include keynote speakers who will recognize and honor the service given by Vietnam-era veterans and ALL veterans.  Following the ceremony free boxed lunches will be provided along with a cash bar.

  • Veterans Day Services: 11:00 am (FREE)
    This traditional recognition of our veterans will be flavored by Operation Welcome Home and will pay tribute to the men and women who defended freedom in Vietnam and in all other American conflicts.
  • Community Covenant Signing: 1:30 pm (FREE) Initiated by the U.S. Army, the Community Covenant signing is a program designed to foster and sustain effective state and community partnerships with the military to improve the quality of life for GIs and their Families, both at their current duty stations and as they transfer to other states. It is a formal commitment of support by state and local communities to GIs and Families of the our military – Active, Guard and Reserve.
  • Northmont Jr. ROTC Drill Team Demonstration: 2:30 pm (FREE) A fun and entertaining treat for visitors who are touring and exploring the historic Dayton VA Campus during the Operation Welcome Home festivities.
  • American Veterans Heritage Center tours in the Putnam Library: 3:00 pm (FREE) The AVHC facility is located in the historic Putnam Library on the VA campus.  A non-profit corporation, the AVHC honors the accomplishments of veterans while preserving a priceless piece of national and local history--­the Soldiers Home located at the VA Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.  Visitors can tour the AVHC facility and the assets of the Miami Valley Military History Museum. Visitors may also enjoy a self-guided tour of the entire campus grounds by downloading a tour guide from http://www.americanveteransheritage.org.memorial/

  • A great place to find information and all products and services a veteran has interest in, such as benefits, VA Center hosted mobile medical center, the Veteran Services Officers will offer on-site benefit sign-ups, a reunion post to help search for lost buddies and Operation Welcome Home memorabilia.

Calling all veterans – there’s going to be a parade in your honor! Home to Wright Patterson Air Force Base, the City of Fairborn knows how to throw a parade. This town is fiercely patriotic and is extremely proud to be hosting the Operation Welcome Home parade. All parade participants are invited to join us and our sponsors at the Fairborn American Legion Post #526 for lunch where they will be personally welcomed by Congressman Michael Turner.
